Scholastic or Sports Achievement
Sonnie Diego-Cordeiro, daughter of Aaron and Gina Vista and grand-daughter of Sing and Lloyd Vista, has made King Kekaulike High School's Junior Varsity Volleyball Team, as their Libero (same position played by ohana libero standout volleyball star, Vernon Podlewski!). Sonnie is a freshman and may be small, but watch out...she's a MIGHTY player! She was also on the Kalama Intermediate Volleyball Team. Their first game is slated for September 12, 2007, against St. Anthony (tentatively at King Kekaulike)--time TBA. Congratulations, Sonnie....another volleyball player in the `ohana!
Three of our high school teens, all from the Podlewski families (Victoria Reinhardt Almeida's ohana) recently walked with their classmates of 2007 to receive their dipolomas. They are Darren Podlewski (son on David and April Podlewski) and Shayna Podlewski from King Kekaulike and Shayna's twin sister, Shauna from the Kamehameha Maui campus, daughters of Norman and Verna Podlewski. Darren would like to continue his post-high school education by pursing an Automotive degree at MCC, but as of posting time, no info was received on the twins university or post high school endeavors.
Kawena Carvalho-Aweau, daughter of Traci Carvalho-Mattos (Hannah Reinhardt Antonio ohana)made Kamehameha's Concert Glee for her incoming Sophmore year! Just a few students are added to the Glee and during the intense auditioning---the judges backs are facing the contenders, as to not be biased. The contenders have no prior knowledge as to the song they will be auditioning...and the song chosen is unfamiliar but they are taught the lyrics and melody before they try out for their solos.
Kawena informed us that at the conclusion of the try-outs, everyone was given another option to sing again if they so chose and Kawena was the first to raise her hand! She said she thought she had done a little better and kept her fingers crossed! Apparently she was right!...as she was notified that she had been selected to join the Concert Glee as a high soprano! The Concert Glee performs at school and community events and will travel off island as part of their program year and we wish Kawena the best and shall look forward to hearing her perform with the glee club in the upcoming 2007-2008 school year!
Awright! Congrats go out to two of our Kamehameha Maui Campus students who made the Honor Roll this past quarter...they are: Kainalu (8th grader) and Jaycie Almeida (7th grader), both are moopuna of Noelani (Antonio) Almeida and Allan, and Kainalu is the son of Jami & Kiala Almeida and Jaycie is the daughter of Jason and Jan Souza Almeida (Hannah Reinhardt Antonio ohana).
We hear Kamehameha student, Jaycee Almeida has begun a class assignment that entails the chanting of her genealogy (mele koihonua) and has used this website's resources as her references. We are delighted that many of our keiki have utilized this site as a tool and garnered many of them "A"s in their assignments! You go girl!
'Aukai Vista and Kawena Carvalho-Aweau (Hannah Reinhardt Antonio ohana) are the newest keiki to make it into Kamehameha Schools! 'Aukai will enter Kindergarten at our Maui Campus Aand join his cousins Kainalu and Jaycie and Kawena will be an incoming freshman at Oahu's Kapalama Campus! Awright! Imua Kamehameha, E!
